🌰 LG CNS: Will Overseas Investment and Expanding AX Orders Show Up in the Numbers? - 2026.10.22
Hi, I’m Acorn. 🌰 There’s a lot happening at LG CNS today, with news of AX orders and overseas expansion arriving all at once, so let’s start by looking at the big picture.
The stock has been running pretty hot, too. It recorded +1.11% from the October 21 closing price of ₩72,300 to the October 22 close of ₩73,100, following +6.95% the previous day. Still, we need to look at the news to understand what these numbers mean.
🔗 Reaching overseas, and an AI factory
News broke that LG CNS is pursuing joint investments in enterprise software and AI companies with U.S. investment firm General Atlantic [1]. The company plans to expand its global business through modular AI data centers and next-generation GPU-based services. In simple terms, it’s looking to do more than deliver services—it wants to bring investment and infrastructure into the mix, too. Think of it as a company that used to turn just one cog now trying to mesh with the cog next to it.
Cooling enters the picture here, too. A data-center chiller with partial-load operating efficiency that is more than 20% higher has been introduced, and the cooling equipment has also been applied to LG CNS’s modular data center, “AI Box.” Overseas orders are reportedly growing as well [3]. It’s common knowledge now that heat is a bottleneck for AI data centers. That makes cooling a more important link than you might expect.
If I were to rank the value chain based on my own interpretation, I’d put data-center infrastructure first, AX orders second, and overseas investment connections third. These aren’t rankings from the articles; they’re just how I’ve mapped out the structure.
📚 Orders are growing, but the path to revenue is still being tested
The company said it has secured around 30,000 employees at domestic corporate customers using ChatGPT Enterprise [2]. The key point is that these customers span a range of industries, including finance, retail, biotech, and manufacturing. This can be read as a sign that enterprise AX is spreading beyond a single industry. But the article doesn’t say that customer numbers will translate directly into revenue or profit margins, so I’ll be clear that this is my interpretation.
According to a report by Hyundai Economic Daily, Samsung SDS and LG CNS are both expected to post higher operating profits in the third quarter of this year [4]. This is a forecast reported in the news, not a result confirmed by the companies. What’s interesting is that the same article describes both companies as “moving from the stage of building AI to the stage of making money from it” [4].
In Indonesia, the government harshly criticized the development of the next-generation tax administration system, Coretax, a project worth 100,000,000,000 KRW, saying the code was “at the level of a programmer who had just graduated from high school” [6]. A year later, the company reportedly issued an official response through local media. The article doesn’t provide enough detail to assess the response or the project’s outlook, so I’ll leave this as a variable to watch.
⚙️ IT services as the workforce changes
LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-gyoon explained that AI is changing organizations and businesses at the same time, disrupting the workforce structure of the IT services industry [5]. As development productivity rises, existing businesses are changing, making change-management skills more important in hiring. In other words, the industry is moving from an era of hiring one more developer to one of finding people who can shift the business. It was an interestingly candid admission.
Acorn thinks the biggest question right now is whether these connections will translate into actual revenue and profit margins. Orders, overseas investment, cooling equipment, and customer growth are lining up, but it remains to be seen how much of the gap will close in the third-quarter figures. Next, we’ll want to see whether this picture shows up in the numbers when earnings are announced, right? 🤔
