🔥 Doosan Enerbility, Between SMR Hopes and On-Site Variables - 2026.09.20
Well, well~ Onion sees the new issue for Doosan Enerbility as not the size of the expectations, but whether those expectations can lead to actual cooperation and business results. Chairman Druckenmiller is reportedly planning to meet senior executives of Doosan Corp. and Doosan Enerbility in Seoul on September 22 [1]. On top of that, news emerged that the company had explored the possibility of expanding into Thailand’s SMR market [2]. The mood is heated, but confirmed contracts and results still need to be checked separately.
The momentum has broadened, but the contract is still pending 📈
Chairman Druckenmiller is also reportedly scheduled to visit semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix during his stay in Korea [1]. So it would be difficult to interpret this schedule alone as meaning that an investment or cooperation with Doosan Enerbility has been decided. Still, it is clear that the meeting with the company’s management itself has emerged as a new event capable of drawing market attention.
Thailand is similar. Reports said that the possibility of expanding into Thailand’s SMR market was explored in Bangkok, but they did not state that the company had finalized its entry or signed a contract [2]. In other words, the door was knocked on, but that does not mean the key was handed over. That distinction is the line separating a stock catalyst from business substance.
How far can U.S. nuclear and power-demand hopes go 🔥
A video also came out discussing why Doosan Enerbility is attracting attention against the backdrop of expanding U.S. nuclear power and rising electricity demand from AI data centers. The video presented keywords related to both large-scale nuclear power and small modular reactors [4]. This should be distinguished as content based on the industry environment rather than a standalone company announcement.
Another video covered the possibility of eight U.S. nuclear projects becoming reality and the opportunities they could create for Korean nuclear stocks [5]. The key word here is ‘possibility.’ It does not mean that the projects have been confirmed through actual contracts. Through my eyes as an aggressive investor, I can see these macro catalysts heating up first, but the market will ultimately seek to confirm contract disclosures and supply scope. When expectations run ahead, fact-checking has to follow breathlessly from behind. With nuclear power, you cannot just draw the ‘circle’—you have to see the contract too ☕
On-site variables remain separate from the expectations
At the construction site of a hydropower plant in the Rasuwa region of Nepal, six Doosan Enerbility employees and three Korea South-East Power employees reportedly went missing after floods and landslides, while the South Korean government’s search support was said to have concluded after one round [3]. This issue is different in nature from SMR or U.S. nuclear expectations; it is a variable concerning on-site safety and project management.
As the scope of a business expands, the market looks not only at technology and orders but also at execution capabilities on the ground. In particular, this news shows that when interpreting expectations for the company’s new businesses, it is necessary to consider the complexity of actual project sites as well. Onion sees this trend as a period of checking whether ‘macro expectations’ are moving into business sites, rather than as a period of ‘confirmed contracts.’
There is only one question left 🚀
The next variables are whether the September 22 meeting will end as a routine schedule, whether the Thailand SMR discussions will lead to follow-up cooperation, and whether the possibilities related to U.S. nuclear power will take concrete shape through actual projects and contracts. Expectations have already spread in several directions, but the party and timing that will turn those expectations into numbers and contracts have not yet been confirmed. What is the market waiting for: a dazzling blueprint, or a signed document?
