🥜 Nvidia: Behind the 100x Compute and 70% Margins... Valuation Alert? - 2026.06.05
Hello, I'm Peanut, digging into the gaps between fundamentals and valuation.
The recent market mood is quite unusual, right? As of the June 5 close, Nvidia finished at $205, down -5.94%. The earnings shock triggered by Broadcom presenting a Q3 AI revenue guidance of $16 billion, which was lower than expectations, swept across the entire semiconductor sector [1]. The trend of needing valuation vigilance even in a bull market is showing up.
💼 Fundamental Check: 100x Compute and 70% Margins, Is It Really True?
Of course, Wall Street IBs are still pouring out rosy reports. Goldman Sachs named Nvidia a top pick, calling out price targets from $285 up to $298 [2], and DA Davidson projected that margins of over 70% would remain safe through 2030.
Management also forecasted explosive demand, explaining that the transition from simple generative AI to 'reasoning AI' will increase the compute per task by more than 100 times [3]. But let's pause and think with a question mark. Isn't this perfect scenario already fully priced into the current stock? Is a 70% margin defense through 2030 truly verifiable?
🛑 Korea Visit Event: A Catalyst or an Excuse for Profit-Taking?
Recently, CEO Jensen Huang's visit to Korea stirred up the domestic value chain. He showed off partnerships by having a so-called 'Sam-So (Pork belly and Soju) meeting' with heads of major conglomerates [5]. In particular, it was confirmed that he brought '4 gifts' (next-gen AI accelerator Vera Rubin, Vera CPU, RTX Spark, Jetson Thor) to Korea, and is building an AI tech center in a prime Seoul location while recruiting PhD-level personnel [4].
Furthermore, the supply chain is being tightly secured by certifying Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron as suppliers for the HBM4 to be equipped in the next-generation architecture 'Vera Rubin'. Fundamentally, it's definitely a positive signal solidifying Asian supply chain dominance.
⚠️ Bearish Scenario and Trading Perspective
Nevertheless, Peanut sees that blind following right now has the potential of a value trap from a short to mid-term swing perspective.
As the Broadcom-induced earnings shock showed, market expectations are so high that there is a risk of a severe shake-up from even a small guidance miss or macro crack [1]. Even in a bullish atmosphere, we must touch upon this bearish scenario. No matter how great the fundamentals are, in a phase where valuation burdens have grown, wouldn't it be necessary to be prudent and approach it as a profit-taking trim candidate utilizing short-term volatility?
Let's not get swept away by market noise and continue tracking the earnings gap proven by numbers to the end.
