🔥 LG Electronics Expands Robotics, Cooling, and Heat Pumps Through AI Execution - 2026.09.17

Here we go~ Onion’s back. LG Electronics’ key battleground today is how quickly it moves from talking about AI to executing in robotics, cooling, and heat pumps. As the group also calls for greater investment precision, the core question is narrowing from how much technology it has to how quickly it can bundle that technology into real businesses. 🔥

Robotics: From Ideas to an Execution Organization

To expand its robotics business, LG Electronics newly established a Robotics Business Center and built a data factory for robot learning at its R&D campus in Yangjae, Seoul. Its cooperation with NVIDIA was also introduced as strengthening the execution base across the robotics business [1], suggesting a push to develop learning data and development systems together rather than simply launch a single robot product.

What matters here is how quickly the organization and infrastructure lead to actual products and services. Onion believes the bullish scenario for the robotics business will become clearer only when this execution base translates into sales or recurring business results. If robots are going to put their feet to work, the data has to put in the legwork too—literally, data is the sole of the foot. ☕

The Entire Group Is Aligning Its AI Investment Sights

Executives from LG’s major affiliates spent about 8 hours discussing ways to enhance investment strategies in response to industrial and technological changes in the AI era. Chairman Koo Kwang-mo conveyed the message that AI is no longer easy to view as optional and called for greater investment precision [2].

This does not mean confirmed results or a specific investment amount for LG Electronics alone. However, it does show an atmosphere in which AI links spread across businesses such as robotics, smart homes, and data center cooling are being realigned at the group level. From the perspective of aggressive investor Onion, this direction could provide the backdrop for business expansion, but what the market will ultimately check is not investment size, but the speed and repeatability of monetization. AI still has to shake hands with profit; waving at itself is just exercise.

Heat Pumps and Data Center Cooling Expand the HVAC Stage

LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics are using high-efficiency heat pumps to expand beyond residential heating and cooling into HVAC for AI data centers. The related industry was introduced as pursuing AI transformation and the green transition together as growth opportunities [3].

For LG Electronics, the key variable is that HVAC can extend beyond simple appliance sales into business-to-business transactions and large-scale equipment. Competition is also intensifying, however, so what matters is not only product efficiency but also how quickly actual orders, installation expansion, and maintenance services gain traction. It is certainly material worthy of market applause, but we should also remember that applause and cash flow are different instruments.

Research Cooperation and New Products Are the Connecting Links

Pusan National University and LG Electronics agreed to expand their more-than-30-year industry-academic cooperation into robotics and AI data center cooling, while pursuing partnerships such as employment-linked contract departments [4]. This movement aims to connect research and talent development with future businesses, potentially supporting the previously discussed robotics development base and data center cooling expansion.

On the product side, the robot vacuum cleaner launched at the end of June, LG HomeBot AI Objet Collection Roni, features two-way steam technology applying 100℃ steam to both the main unit and the station. Its product strategy focuses on reducing damage to wooden floors and linoleum flooring in Korean homes [5]. The product is meaningful as an example of the robotics business moving beyond technology demonstrations into differentiation tailored to specific everyday situations.

Ultimately, LG Electronics’ new story is not about developing robotics, HVAC, and AI homes separately, but about tying them together through data, talent, and products. Onion is watching the bullish scenario in which LG Electronics connects its AI execution capabilities to actual business results. Still, questions remain over when its robotics organization and cooling cooperation will lead to recurring revenue, and how long its differentiation can hold amid heat pump competition.
