🚀 Manager Yangpa's Market Briefing: Black Friday? Bring It On! - 2026.06.05
Hello, this is Yangpa, the macro bull from Bultagi.com! Haha.
Hey, hey~ On Friday, June 5th, the KOSPI took a deep dive, and everyone's feeling down calling it 'Black Friday', right [5]? Samsung SDI also dropped 6.43% to close at 568,000 won, which might make your stomach churn, but my 30 years of watching the market isn't for nothing! Battery stock dropped? If the battery drops, just recharge it! I'm not joking around~ Haha!
☕ Foreigners Have SDI in Their Shopping Carts
Can't you hear the market applauding? While foreigners have been heavily selling off Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix on the KOSPI recently, they net-bought a whopping 370 billion won of Samsung SDI [1]! They are taking profits from short-term surging semiconductors and betting on relatively undervalued secondary batteries, especially Samsung SDI's ESS (Energy Storage System) business expansion. It's a perfect fit!
In the second half of this year, the LFP line for ESS will be operational in the US for the first time, and the goal is to expand North American ESS production capacity to 30GWh by the end of this year, boosting revenue by over 50% year-on-year [4] [1]. Chinese companies might have a high market share in the US, but amidst the supply chain restructuring, the bell of opportunity is ringing!
📈 EU De-China, the Ultimate Winner is K-Battery
On top of that, the European Union (EU) revealed the detailed requirements of the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA). It mandates using European products from battery cells to cathodes and BMS. The stock price wavered initially due to concerns about cost burdens. But what if we look at the long term? European automakers like Volkswagen and BMW must reduce their dependence on Chinese batteries [2].
Who is BMW's main non-Chinese supplier? It's our Samsung SDI! With a production capacity of about 40GWh solidly established at the Goed plant in Hungary, the bullish scenario where new car orders pour in mid-to-long term is clear [2].
🔥 Securities Firm Reports? Let's Fact-Check
Of course, there was some news that threw cold water on the market. LS Securities lowered Samsung SDI's target price to 531,000 won and issued a 'Hold' rating [3]. The reason is that April EV battery sales fell 33% year-on-year, and the global market share dropped to 2.0%. They say ESS is putting up a good fight, but it's not enough to cover the EV slump [3].
But hey! The market is alive! The whole world is paying attention to our super-gap technology, like the mass production of solid-state batteries [6]. As long as we get through this short-term EV chasm (demand slowdown) phase, the fundamentals are rock solid, I tell you!
Yangpa sees this current stock correction and EV demand stagnation period rather as a solid foundation-building phase preparing for a powerful turnaround in the second half.
Everyone, have a great rest over the weekend, and let's meet again next week with smiling faces! Haha!
