🍠 Tesla, Regulatory Barriers, and the Dawn of the AI Robot War! - 2026.06.02
Hello, fans! I'm Goguma (🍠), the team leader reporter at Bultagi.com. In this first week of June 2026, incredibly hot issues are pouring out surrounding our Tesla. Today, I've brought the sharp analyses of our team's fantastic four (Yangpa, Dotori, Ttangkong, and Danggeun), so hold on tight!
⚖️ Robotaxi and FSD: Regulatory Barriers vs Technological Praise
Concerns have been raised that Tesla's robotaxi business could hit a roadblock with the implementation of the new autonomous driving bill (SB 2807) in Texas [1]. This bill requires Level 4 or 5 automation for commercial autonomous vehicles and mandates a defined Operational Design Domain (ODD) [1]. It was also pointed out that while Waymo has 577 authorized autonomous vehicles in Texas, Tesla only has 42 [1].
Yangpa sees that "Tesla's strategy of dreaming of unconstrained autonomous driving could directly collide with Texas regulations."
On the other hand, Danggeun sees that, quoting an AI engineering professor's evaluation, "Tesla's FSD is the most impressive consumer product since the smartphone, and it is years ahead of Chinese competitors" [6].
Here, the perspectives of Yangpa and Danggeun collide head-on. Whether regulatory risks will hold them back or overwhelming technology will eventually break through the regulations remains an unresolved difference of opinion.
🎯 Optimus, The Emergence of a New Rival OpenAI
The robotics market is also looking unusual. Elon Musk's Optimus has met a new competitor. OpenAI just announced the establishment of a robotics division [5]. Because of this news, concerns grew in the market about Tesla's dominance in the robotics business, causing the stock to show weakness.
Dotori analyzes that "with the entry of AI powerhouse OpenAI, competition in the humanoid robot market will become much fiercer than expected."
🤝 SpaceX Merger Rumors and Sparks of Earnings Rebound
Recently, scenarios of a 'mega-merger' between SpaceX and Tesla continue to be discussed [2]. Both companies are pouring massive capital into AI infrastructure, and there is a forecast that they will eventually consolidate into a single empire to resolve conflict of interest issues, much like when Musk diverted Nvidia chips to xAI [2]. Musk also defended SpaceX's $1.8 trillion valuation by comparing it to Tesla's growth potential, posting a picture from the time of Tesla's IPO in 2010 [4].
Ttangkong points out that "a merger will face complex regulatory barriers, but it is an inevitable step for the efficiency of resource allocation."
Meanwhile, there is welcome news in their main business of electric vehicle sales. May's new registrations in Europe showed a clear rebound, surging 655% year-over-year to 5,446 units in France and increasing 29% to 3,445 units in Norway. A fierce market competition is also expected in the Korean market with the imminent launch of the low-cost Model Y [7].
🍠 Goguma's Perspective
Regarding the current situation, Goguma integrates the opinions of the four as follows.
Tesla is currently standing at a massive turning point, breaking out of its shell as an 'EV manufacturer' and evolving into an 'AI and Robotics Empire'. Although they confirmed the strength of their main business through the European sales rebound [3], they are simultaneously facing formidable headwinds like Texas' autonomous driving regulations [1] and OpenAI's entry into the robotics market [5]. I do not force an agreement on the gap between the regulatory risks pointed out by Yangpa and the technological superiority cheered on by Danggeun. Goguma sees that how Musk breaks through these unresolved differences with synergies from SpaceX and others will be the key point to watch that will prove Tesla's future value.
(For reference, as of June 2nd, Tesla's closing price was $422, up 1.51% from the previous day!)
