🥕 Micron Between the Robot Memory Outlook and Supply Bottlenecks - 2026.10.28
It’s Carrot here, back with the numbers 📊 This time, robots and even Musk entered the Micron story, while the stock rose +2.85% to a close of $929.49 on October 27, on volume of 15,842,542. But it’s still too early to know if this marks the start of a trend.
Robot memory talk shook up the story 🤖
The starting point for this rise is the outlook for memory used in robots. Reports said Elon Musk had stated that robots will need more memory than anything else on Earth [1]. In the same article, an analyst described the opportunity for both Micron and SK Hynix as a 'much bigger volume story' [1]. Barron's also reported that a big-picture prediction linking Micron, Musk, and memory is lifting the stock [2]. But these are Musk's remarks and outside interpretations, not a plan confirmed by the company. The words are bold, but whether the numbers will follow is still an open question, so I’m a bit unsure. 🤔
The bottleneck is showing up on SK Hynix’s side
The supply-side story is interesting. 24/7 Wall St. pointed to a bottleneck dynamic in which SK Hynix is selling first to its top-tier customers (Tier-1), while Micron is absorbing the spillover demand [3]. Put simply, the biggest customers are at the front of the line, and the remaining demand flows down the queue. If that’s right, it’s not a bad position for Micron. Still, the article doesn’t say this will translate into earnings, so I’ll draw the line there. This is genuinely a confusing point.
400-layer NAND, a roadmap looking toward 2027 ✨
There’s also a note on the technology front. TechPowerUp reported that Micron plans 400-layer 3D NAND using wafer-to-wafer bonding in 2027 [4]. This is a company plan described in the article, and whether it leads to a production schedule is something to watch. As with the earlier talk about 4F², the continued roadmap updates show how closely the market is watching for the next generation.
Wall Street views remain divided 🎯
Yonhap News Economy TV reported that BofA took a 'more positive' view after meeting with Micron management and maintained its Buy rating [5]. That should be taken as BofA’s view alone. But the chart quickly brings us back to reality. On October 22, the stock fell -6.26% to $856.49, and that day’s low was $849.25. I’m watching around here as a lower-bound check, while the October 27 high of $935.87 is on my mind as a level above. This is seriously a tricky range to pin down.
Carrot’s checkpoints 🥕
I want to see first whether the robot outlook and bottleneck story turn into actual order numbers. There’s plenty of news right now, but the numbers column is still blank. So my basic rule is: no all-in buying, no all-out selling, and act only if support breaks. I’ll leave you with one question: how quickly will the memory demand implied by Musk’s remarks turn into actual orders and supply contracts? That answer is what will make this a real story.
