🔗 LG CNS: The Link Between 30,000 AI Users and Data Center Contracts - 2026.10.23
Hi, I’m Dotori 🌰 My job is to map out industries and value chains on a chalkboard, so today I’ll start with the big picture. News about LG CNS has been pouring in all at once, but taken together, it all comes down to one question: how deeply will AI enter the workplace?
🔗 AI has made its way to office desks
LG CNS has secured around 30,000 domestic users for ChatGPT Enterprise [3]. Newsis also reported that it will provide enterprise ChatGPT to 30,000 office workers [5]. The key is that the company supports everything from deployment to workplace adoption [3]. It’s not just a matter of installing a solution and calling it done; the system becomes part of how people work. That connection is what matters 🔗
There’s related news, too. LG CNS emphasized that companies need to connect their business context to AI services while building security measures alongside them. AWS announced ways to develop and operate AI agents in cloud environments [4]. The point is that work integrating data and security around AI is becoming more important than the AI models themselves. Looking one step further, this work comes after the supply contract is signed, making it structurally more like a recurring business area.
⚙️ Data centers run on construction and operations
For an AI data center project in Indonesia, LG CNS is handling mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) construction and operations, securing contracts worth at least 64,000,000 USD for construction and 6,000,000 USD for operations and maintenance, for a total of at least 70,000,000 USD [1]. The report also notes that this is part of the 107,000,000 USD in total contracts secured by Korean companies [1]. Think of it like a factory production line: construction is the process of setting up the equipment, while operations and maintenance keep the line running after it starts up. 🏭
If we rank these by value-chain tier, the construction work with a disclosed contract amount comes first, the operations contract—which may involve recurring work—comes second, and the AI supply contract, whose value wasn’t disclosed, comes third. That’s my ranking based on the contract amounts reported by the sources, not a ranking announced by the company.
📚 Where did the earnings rebound come from, and what challenges remain?
BusinessPost interprets the earnings rebound as stemming from next-generation projects in the financial sector, and says CEO Hyun Shin-kyun’s AI transformation capabilities could drive continued growth [2]. I should point out that “could drive growth” is the article’s outlook, not a confirmed company plan. The share price rose from the 10/15 closing price of ₩61,300 to the 10/22 closing price of ₩72,700. 📈
There’s also a piece of news that tempers the mood. The Ministry of Education said a special investigation involving the Korean Council for University Education and LG CNS identified the cause of the September 11 Uway Apply outage [6]. The issue was a software compatibility problem that emerged while installing a new server operating system [6]. It’s an example of the weight of handling public-sector and education systems. However, the sources don’t say how much this affected the company’s earnings or profitability, so I’ll leave it at that.
Dotori sees these agreements and contracts as hypothetical stories until they show up in the earnings figures. So one question remains: how might 30,000 ChatGPT users and data center contracts ultimately translate into a profit margin? 🤔
