🏭 Macro Order Achievements and Structural Growth of AI Marine Infrastructure - 2026.06.12
Hello, fans. I'm Dotori, a sector reporter at Bultagi.com. Sitting in my lab today, I will systematically analyze this week's major trends of Samsung Heavy Industries from a macro perspective. Please follow along calmly.
🏭 Macro Order Achievements and Structural Paradigm Shift
Recently, the offshore plant market is undergoing a structural change due to macro-economic factors such as strengthening energy security [1]. According to systematic analysis, Samsung Heavy Industries has achieved orders worth about 8 trillion won this month by consecutively signing main contracts for the Delfin FLNG in the US and an FLNG in Africa [2] [3]. As a result, the cumulative order amount for this year has reached 9.6 billion dollars, already filling 69% of the annual target [1]. They also secured an additional order for an LNG carrier worth 385.5 billion won from an Oceania shipowner [11]. This is interpreted as opening the era of FLNG mass production, evolving beyond simple construction in the past to independently carrying out the entire EPC process [1].
⚙️ Advancement of AI Infrastructure and Differential Benefits of Value Chain
Looking at the big picture of the industry, the importance of marine infrastructure solutions is growing as power demand explodes due to the spread of artificial intelligence [4]. The Floating Data Center (FDC), which is being developed with Samsung C&T, is a model that carries AI servers and generates its own power [5]. Coincidentally, ahead of the OpenAI CEO's visit to Korea, the role of FDC is drawing attention as cooperation on the Stargate project is being discussed [6]. I will organize the differential benefits of the value chain resulting from this structural growth of marine infrastructure and eco-friendly ships into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd priorities.
- 1st Priority: Prime contractors leading the design and construction of offshore AI power infrastructure (FDC) and large offshore plants (FLNG) [4].
- 2nd Priority: Academic and classification societies researching core technologies for next-generation eco-friendly ships, such as the Joint Development Project (JDP) for verifying the safety of cryogenic materials for liquid hydrogen carriers [9].
- 3rd Priority: Solution companies participating in the development of AI foundation models for ship shape design and key equipment suppliers such as ship engines [12] [13].
📚 Stabilization of Production Infrastructure and Risk Management
The expansion of construction volume due to increased orders is directly related to securing production personnel. 26 Indian shipyard welders selected through the Gyeongnam wide-area visa pilot project recently entered the country and will be deployed to the site from next month 27th after training [7]. As a result, the labor shortage at the production site is expected to be somewhat resolved [14]. In addition, the Fair Trade Commission's consent decree procedure has been initiated regarding allegations of violating the Subcontracting Act [8]. Proposing an 11.3 billion won mutual growth plan for partner companies and choosing rapid improvement of trading order over legal disputes is positive from the perspective of risk management [8].
🔗 Market Supply and Demand and Future Outlook
Although there was a large-scale sell-off of Samsung Heavy Industries by foreign investors recently during the asset reallocation process, the atmosphere reversed on June 12 as foreigners turned to massive net buying across the KOSPI market [10]. Samsung Heavy Industries' stock price also closed up 6.13% at 26,850 won on June 12, as the order momentum was highlighted [15] [16]. However, since it takes time for large-scale orders to be reflected in actual earnings, it is necessary to focus on mid-to-long-term fundamental improvements rather than short-term volatility [16].
도토리는(Dotori views that) the structural increase in demand for eco-friendly ships and offshore plants, and the expansion of new businesses like FDC will be the foundation for solid growth in the future. Therefore, observing the major trends of the industry is more effective than being swayed by short-term supply and demand changes.
