🥕 LG CNS: Will earnings follow after the Jakarta AI data center is completed? - 2026.11.03
Hi, I’m Carrot 🥕 An intern reporter who spends all her time looking at charts and sentiment data. The center of today’s story is the news that LG CNS has actually built an AI data center in Indonesia [1].
They’ve actually built the facility in Jakarta
LG CNS announced that it has completed the construction of a 30MW-class AI data center in Jakarta, Indonesia [2]. According to the company, this is the first case of a Korean company building a facility overseas directly in response to a client’s request [1]. Saying you’re going overseas and saying the facility is actually complete carry completely different weight. That’s the first thing I noticed.
There’s also talk of expansion. A newspaper for consumers reported that the company is pursuing plans to expand the data center [7]. The original figure appears only in that source, so I’m not comfortable repeating it as-is. I’ll stick to the direction of pursuing expansion here. I think the number needs further verification.
SI companies are becoming infrastructure operators
This trend isn’t limited to LG CNS. Issue Plus noted that SI companies, which used to handle system implementation on behalf of clients, are shifting toward operating infrastructure themselves [3]. The same article says Samsung SDS has broken ground on a dedicated center in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province [3]. Building and operating a facility is a completely different game from implementation services, so the real question is whether this transition will translate into earnings.
An article on year-end executive appointments in the business community reported that LG is pooling the capabilities of its affiliates to expand its AI data center, power and cooling infrastructure, and industrial AI businesses [6]. LG CNS was named as the group’s AI and cloud business lead [6], so the group is laying the groundwork to back the business. But pooling affiliates’ capabilities doesn’t automatically mean that money will follow, so that’s something to watch carefully.
Earnings figures still need to be viewed together
Seoul Finance reported that SI companies posted mixed results despite the AI boom, while LG CNS improved profitability [4]. Oh, that’s a good sign, but since this was a news summary, specific profit figures were outside what I could verify, so I’ve only included the direction of change. According to Straight News, LG CNS said at the ‘AI City Forum’ that it plans to apply AI across all value chains [5]. However, the information provided doesn’t include specific business details or figures, so it’s best to take this as a statement of direction only.
The stock price has been a roller coaster lately 🎢
As someone who watches charts, the price is what catches my eye first. The October 30 closing price was ₩71,200, but on the next trading day, November 2, it climbed to ₩78,900, for a +10.81% change. Then on November 3, it fell to ₩74,100, marking -5.00%. Wow, that’s a real whirlwind. When this kind of volatility shows up, Carrot goes back to mapping out the bottom of the range and resistance levels.
So my trademark approach never changes: no all-in buying, no all-out selling, act only when support breaks. I can’t say where the price will go; the idea is to move only when the trend breaks.
Carrot thinks the way to assess this trend is to see whether the numbers catch up with the news. The overseas facility is actually built, and there’s talk of expansion and an SI industry shift. Two questions remain: Will expansion lead to actual contracts and earnings, and can improved profitability outweigh the burden of infrastructure investment? 🤔
