In particular, expectations are growing that Mobis will play a core role in the vertical integration of robots as it links up with the production of actuators, the core components of the humanoid robot Atlas [5].
The market is evaluating Boston Dynamics' enterprise value at over 30 trillion won [6], and there are analyses suggesting that this could be a re-rating momentum that surpasses the traditional auto parts maker valuation of PER 12x and PBR 1.2x [7]. But let me pause here and ask a question. Is that really the case? Are all these rosy outlooks verifiable with immediate earnings?
There are realistic risks we must pay attention to. Recently, the possibility of supply chain disruptions due to a fire at the India plant was raised, and there is a risk that profitability will be pressured by intensifying competition in the European market [3]. The narrative of building a physical AI ecosystem is excellent, but if this does not lead to meaningful EPS growth in the short term, we must leave open the possibility of a typical value trap.
Furthermore, there was recent news that autonomous trucking startup Mars Auto and LX Pantos have established a 7,000 km round-trip autonomous logistics route across the US continent, and Hyundai Mobis's parts are being transported here [4]. While this is positive in terms of logistics efficiency, we need to coldly assess how much this will contribute to overall EV/EBITDA improvement.
