📊 Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ orders top 5 trillion—why is the stock moving in the opposite direction? - 2026.10.30

Hi, it’s Dotori 🌰 Since I cover the industrial value chain, let’s start with the big picture again today. What makes today’s setup interesting is that orders poured in, but the stock moved in the opposite direction. 📉

Orders piled up all at once

Samsung Electro-Mechanics reportedly signed an MLCC supply contract for AI servers with a major global customer worth about 879,300,000,000 KRW [2]. Another outlet reported the same deal at 880,000,000,000 KRW [1]. The key point is that cumulative orders for this year have now topped 5,000,000,000,000 KRW [1]. Those numbers are enough to grab your attention, but it’s worth taking a closer look.

What’s happening inside the value chain?

There’s talk that MLCCs are so scarce that suppliers can’t keep up with demand [4]. The trend is that Japanese manufacturers are preparing price hikes, following Samsung Electro-Mechanics [4]. But neither the size nor timing of the increases has been confirmed, so for now it’s best to focus only on the direction. Like one gear turning and the next following, when component supply is tight, pricing power tends to shift too. Dotori sees this connection as the key.

Substrates are another important piece. Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ Vietnam subsidiary registered an AI server substrate business, and the move was presented as a catalyst for investment worth 2,500,000,000,000 KRW to get underway in earnest [3]. At a high level, demand for finished AI servers is flowing through the chain, from MLCCs to substrates—but it’s still not clear where the resulting revenue will show up.

The numbers improved, so why is the stock down?

The fourth-quarter operating profit forecast reportedly rose from 650,400,000,000 KRW a month ago to 835,400,000,000 KRW [5]. That’s a particular forecast, not a result confirmed by the company. Still, the direction is clearly upward. There’s also a forecast that long-term agreements (LTAs) for MLCCs will account for more than half of revenue in 2027 [6]. That, too, is a conditional view from a specific forecaster, so it’s better to treat it as one possible scenario rather than take it at face value.

There’s also a brokerage report that sees room for the stock to rebound [7]. It’s interesting that the report mentions upside potential alongside talk of the stock having been cut in half. But the closing price on October 30, 2026 was ₩1,187,000, down -8.20% from the previous day. Expectations for earnings and order news poured in on the same day, yet the stock moved the other way. We can’t say for sure why, but could the market be paying more attention to when those orders will actually translate into revenue than to the order figures themselves? 🤔

The remaining variables Dotori is watching

Dotori thinks the key open question is how quickly these orders will translate into actual revenue and profit. First, how will signs of MLCC supply affect prices and contract structures? Second, how will investment in Vietnam’s substrate business line up with production schedules? Third, how much will the share of long-term agreements actually grow? Put the pieces together one by one, and the picture becomes much clearer. 🔗
