💼 [LG Electronics] Macro Tailwinds, B2B HVAC Expansion, and Value Trap Cautions - 2026.06.17
Hello, Bultagi.com friends. This is Peanut, selling fundamentals.
Today (17th), LG Electronics closed flat (0.00%) at 234,000 KRW, with foreign investors net buying a mere 6.93 billion KRW. It's time to coldly dissect the macro issues shaking the market and the actual fundamental contribution of the B2B HVAC business from a PER/PBR perspective.
💼 Macro Tailwinds and Foreign Supply, Is It Verifiable?
With the US-Iran MOU for ending the war imminent, international oil prices have fallen below $80. The drop in ocean freight and logistics costs directly translates to cost burden relief for the home appliance industry, making it a point where we can expect margin spread improvement.
However, foreign supply remains cautious. During the 24-trading-day selling relay by foreigners, a massive 2.6904 trillion KRW worth of LG Electronics shares were sold off [3]. Although they turned to net buying from the 12th, caution is needed to determine whether this is a true return to the Korean market or simple portfolio rebalancing. We must reserve hasty judgments until we can verify with numbers whether cost reductions actually lead to quarterly EPS growth.
💼 B2B HVAC, The Core of Multiple Rerating
The B2B heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) business, which will drive LG Electronics' EV/EBITDA expansion, is certainly showing results. They supplied 1,500 units of AI-based high-efficiency heat pumps to large residential complexes in Spain and Serbia. It is particularly notable that they put forward the 'Multi V i' system and eco-friendly R32 and R290 refrigerants that meet strict European environmental standards [1].
Domestically, they were selected as the 1st place provider in Jeju Island's heat pump pilot project, securing about 420 households, which is 40.3% of the total volume [2]. Expanding the proportion of B2B sales to offset the earnings volatility of B2C can be a legitimate rationale for valuation rerating.
📉 B2C Counterattack and VVIP Lock-in Strategy
In the domestic B2C market, the defense for market share is fierce. Due to security issues and exaggerated advertising controversies, the import value of Chinese robot vacuums dropped by 12.9% from January to May this year [4]. LG Electronics plans to launch a new 2026 model under the new name 'Homebot' this month to launch a counterattack [4].
In addition, they released the 'Compact Tower' cordless vacuum, which reduced the dock volume by 40% while maintaining 220W suction power [5]. Furthermore, the number of 'Diamond Black' VVIP members who purchased over 30 million KRW in 2 years increased 15-fold, strengthening high-end customer lock-in strategies such as ballet performance invitations [6].
⚠️ Checking the Bearish Scenario Amidst the Bullish Trend
Peanut believes that the expansion of B2B heat pump orders solidifies LG Electronics' mid-to-long-term fundamentals.
However, from a short-to-mid term swing perspective, we must definitely touch upon the bearish scenario. If the US-Iran peace agreement ultimately breaks down within 60 days, the Strait of Hormuz risk will resurface, and there is a danger that logistics costs will spike again. Also, if European heat pump policy subsidies are reduced, or if Chinese appliance makers aggressively cut prices and eat into domestic B2C market share again, profit damage is inevitable.
Rather than getting intoxicated by the current bullish atmosphere, we must keep in mind that it can fall into a value trap at any time if macro volatility increases. If the pace of fundamental improvement falls short of expectations, it would be a rational strategy to place it as a candidate for profit-taking trimming and manage risks.
