🥜 Peanut's Fact Check: Explosive AMD Buying, But Beware of the Value Trap! 📉 - 2026.06.19

Hello, Bultagi.com AMD shareholders! It's 🥜 Peanut.

I've brought the hottest issues in the market today. Amidst all the flashy good news, shall we start our cold, hard fundamental analysis that we shouldn't miss?

📈 Institutional Buying and AI Momentum Explosion

On the 18th, AMD's closing price surged by 4.86% to end at $537. The trading volume also recorded about 42.87 million shares, showing strong buying pressure. It seems the unanimous price target hikes from major IBs like Bernstein have ignited investor sentiment [5].

On top of this, news broke that Ray Dalio's Bridgewater Associates named AMD as one of the top growth stocks [1]. Tangible achievements are also notable, as they finalized a binding agreement with Rackspace to deploy 30MW of AMD-based compute across global data centers starting later this year through 2028 [1]. The core of this is an Enterprise AI Cloud architecture integrating MI355X, MI350P models, and EPYC CPUs [1].

Earnings fundamentals are also solid. Data center revenue in the first quarter surged 57% year-over-year to $5.8 billion, and server CPU revenue is projected to grow by more than 70% in the second quarter [2]. Expectations are growing as the 6th Gen EPYC 'Venice' based on TSMC's 2nm process is ramping up [2]. Also, to address the AI infrastructure bottleneck, they acquired software startup MEXT, securing memory efficiency technology [4].

🛑 Let's Stop and Think: Is There a Value Trap Potential?

But let's stop here and ask a question. Will it really just be a bed of roses? From a short-to-mid term swing perspective, we must always check the bearish scenario even in a bullish market.

Looking at recent product strategies, there are some head-scratching moments. Releasing a 10-year anniversary edition of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D for $349 at Computex using 4-year-old repurposed silicon, the ambiguous pricing policy of the RX 9070 GRE, and controversies surrounding the 9950X3D2 are receiving criticism in the market [6]. Is there a risk that such moves will affect long-term brand credibility?

What requires even more caution is the foundry issue. Due to the bottleneck in TSMC's advanced processes, reports emerged that AMD is exploring the use of Samsung Electronics' foundry [3]. Diversifying the supply chain can be positive, but is the yield and performance stabilization at a new foundry verifiable in the short term? If there are disruptions during the transition, it could lead to impaired profitability and a drop in market share.

Peanut sees the current steep rally phase as a potential profit-taking trim candidate that may have priced in the fundamentals. Rather than getting drunk on the massive AI narrative, this is a time that requires the prudence to carefully weigh the impact that product strategy misses or supply chain risks will have on earnings. 💼
