📉 Tesla: A Day of Strong Sales and Service Challenges - 2026.10.27
Hi, I’m Peanuts. Today was interesting because good news about Tesla came with a “Could that really be true?” question. 📊 The closing price on the 26th was $391.48, up +5.17% [1].
📈 Europe expansion is welcome, but there are no numbers yet
Reports say Tesla’s assisted driving feature has expanded to two more countries in Europe [1]. The stock reaction came along with the news. But it’s hard to say from this article alone that expanding the feature will immediately translate into results. There’s still no data to verify how many units were sold or how much revenue it generated. The Globe and Mail reported that FSD (Full Self-Driving), robotaxis, and Capital-related topics were major points of discussion on the earnings call [2]. That’s based on the headline, so I haven’t seen the detailed comments yet. For now, it makes sense to note only the general direction.
⚠️ Sales are up, but can service keep pace?
According to KBS, domestic sales of imported EVs such as Tesla and BYD have increased significantly [6]. But Tesla has about 17 service technicians per service center, and repair costs are said to be more than twice those for domestic cars [6]. The key question is whether service infrastructure can support the company after it takes the top sales spot. What happens to long-term demand if popular cars get held back by repair problems? I think it’s worth considering the possibility of a value trap here.
🛑 Treat merger talk and mixed analyst views as conditional
Reports say a Tesla-SpaceX merger is widely considered likely to go through [5]. This is a third-party observation reported by Benzinga, not a plan confirmed by either company. Peanuts thinks merger talk should be treated as conditional until it’s confirmed. Any investment decision should be considered on that basis too.
Analysts are divided as well. Barron’s reported that one analyst recommended buying Tesla [3], while Seeking Alpha assessed that the current share price is close to fair value, with limited upside [4]. Both are third-party claims, so they shouldn’t be read as confirmation from the company or as confidence from management. The disagreement over upside is itself an interesting point. I won’t leave out the bearish scenario, either. If strong sales come with the burden of servicing more vehicles, the fair-value argument could become harder to sustain.
💼 Three variables remain
The questions are simple for now. Can service infrastructure keep up with the pace of sales? Will merger talk lead to actual procedures? And can FSD and robotaxis be validated by earnings figures? Until those three questions are resolved, I think we should pay more attention to the quality of the evidence than to the headlines.
