🥜 Doosan Enerbility: Westinghouse Review and Verification Challenges - 2026.10.14
Hi, it’s Peanut. Let’s check the numbers together first today, too 🥜 When it comes to Doosan Enerbility, the Westinghouse news is definitely the biggest headline.
Is the Westinghouse Stake Deal Getting Bigger?
According to an exclusive report, 7–8 companies, including Doosan Enerbility, Samsung C&T, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and GS E&C, are considering participating in the acquisition of a stake in U.S. company Westinghouse [1]. The government’s target stake is reportedly 5–10% (including voting rights). The investment banking industry seems to think the company could be valued quite highly if it goes public, but that’s an industry view, not a confirmed outcome. Could it really happen? There’s often a longer-than-expected gap between the review stage and an actual contract.
Czech SMR: The Process Has Started, But...
According to The Guru, the Czech SMR project has entered the environmental impact assessment process [2]. The article’s headline said that a Doosan Enerbility order was coming into view, but that is the outlet’s interpretation and shouldn’t be taken at face value. An environmental impact assessment is just one step in the process, and whether it will lead to an actual order still needs to be verified. In my view, confirming an order is key to realizing opportunities in nuclear power equipment.
Share Price, Corporate Governance, and Research News
The share price remained weak, closing at ₩69,800 (-1.83%) on October 13 and ₩69,300 (-1.28%) on October 14. Around the same time, news emerged that the company had begun joint research with Changwon National University on AI-based nuclear power plant manufacturing technology [3]. Advances in manufacturing technology are welcome as a sign of long-term strength, but it’s too early to say that the start of research will translate directly into earnings.
Corporate governance hasn’t been quiet, either. Reports say that the Doosan Enerbility Shareholders’ Coalition held a truck protest, but the merger fell through. The case of Hanwha Aerospace’s 3,000,000,000,000 KRW paid-in capital increase in March 2025, when its share price plunged sharply in a single day, has also come up again [4]. As cases like these accumulate, issues related to controlling shareholders could remain a factor weighing on valuation.
There’s Good News, So Why Isn’t the Stock Moving?
A Korea Securities TV video discussed why nuclear power stocks have been sluggish despite positive news and what could drive a rebound in Doosan Enerbility [5]. However, this is the perspective of the video’s guest, so it should be viewed with that attribution in mind. At this point, Peanut thinks we should first look at valuation to understand why good news isn’t translating into share price gains. For a short- to medium-term swing trade, the bearish scenario is also clear. If positive news keeps falling short of expectations and earnings verification is delayed, there’s a chance that a seemingly cheap price could remain a value trap. 📉 ⚠️
Questions That Remain
What we can see for now is a review stage, a procedural stage, and the start of research. The key variables are whether the review of the Westinghouse stake leads to an actual contract and whether the Czech process results in an order. 🤔 We’ll need those answers before we can properly calculate valuation, right?
