🥕 AMD Checks the EPYC and NVIDIA Gap Ahead of Earnings Previews 📊 - 2026.10.27
Hey, it’s Carrot 🥕 I’m back wrestling with the numbers beside AMD’s chart. The key question this time is where the stock can hold up as third-quarter earnings previews keep rolling in. There are several catalysts, but they point in different directions when you break them down one by one—which makes this fun. 📊
Let’s start with the chart
AMD closed at $531.22 on October 26, up +2.79%. A week earlier, on October 16, it closed at $528.75, then slid -8.10% on October 22 to as low as $507.93. I’m viewing the area around $507.93 as something like the bottom of a trading range. Of course, that’s just my interpretation; we’ll have to wait and see whether the line breaks. Wow, if it really drops below this line, the mood could change fast.
The catalysts point in different directions
A 24/7 Wall St. article said Intel shares rose 5%, with a new analyst upgrade citing a shortage of server CPUs [2]. It also noted that AMD and NVIDIA rose that day. When server CPUs come up, AMD’s EPYC naturally catches the eye too. But the upgrade coverage was about Intel, so we can’t simply apply it to AMD based on the article alone.
A TradingView article reported that chipmakers drew attention after Meta-related AI upgrade news, and that AMD shares also rose [4]. But the article’s gain is 2.3%, while the change based on the closing price in the table is +2.79%—the numbers don’t match. When the numbers don’t add up, I tend to reject even a good story, so I’ll use only the table’s figure for the gain.
Why EPYC is drawing attention
In a third-quarter preview, a Seeking Alpha contributor said the market is watching OpenAI-related issues, while they’re focusing on the EPYC server business [1]. It’s a distinctly different angle: looking separately at server CPUs while market attention is fixed on AI stories. Still, that’s the contributor’s personal view, and no one knows yet what the company will report in its results.
The NVIDIA gap, and what remains unresolved
A 24/7 Wall St. price outlook article offered the view that the gap with NVIDIA could shape AMD’s next big move [3]. That’s the publication’s argument, not a fact confirmed by the company. So it seems best to keep the “gap” in mind as one possible factor, without reading too much into it.
What I’m most curious about right now is whether $507.93 can hold on AMD’s chart. And my rules are always the same: no going all-in on buys, no going all-in on sells, and act only if support breaks. 🎯
Three questions remain: how the EPYC trend will show up in the third-quarter results, whether talk of server CPU demand on Intel’s side will carry over to AMD, and whether the $507.93 line will hold. ✨
