🌰 Dotori's View: LG Innotek's Structural Changes and Value Chain Analysis - 2026.06.26
Hello, fans. This is Dr. Dotori, your industry analysis expert. Today, I'll systematically analyze the macroeconomic environment and the micro-fundamental changes surrounding LG Innotek.
📚 Macro Perspective: Structural Changes in Physical AI and Semiconductor Substrates
From a macro perspective, the IT industry is currently entering the era of physical AI. Because of this, the importance of robots and autonomous driving technologies for artificial intelligence to operate in physical spaces is growing. According to systematic analysis, the LG Working Group, including LG Innotek, recently visited Nvidia's headquarters in the U.S. to solidify plans for cooperation in physical AI and robot form factors. In particular, the LG Group is emerging as a core partner for Nvidia, based on its massive 770TB (terabytes) of manufacturing data accumulated from 31 production facilities worldwide and its spatial expertise [1]. Additionally, LG Innotek is co-developing vision sensing modules with Boston Dynamics and has signed an MOU with Kakao Mobility for the joint development of autonomous driving solutions, actively expanding its ecosystem.
Alongside this, the AI semiconductor substrate (FC-BGA) market has also entered a structural boom. With big tech companies expanding their investments, the demand for high value-added substrates is increasing, showing a parallel trend with the memory semiconductor cycle [2]. LG Innotek is aggressively expanding its facilities by investing 600 billion won in its Gumi plant and over 1 trillion won in a new plant in Vietnam, preemptively responding to market demand [4].
⚙️ Systematic Analysis: Q2 Earnings Forecast and Supply-Demand Trends
Looking at LG Innotek's fundamentals from a micro perspective, the securities industry is forecasting an earnings surprise for the second consecutive quarter. Even though Q2 is traditionally an off-season for the optical sector, KB Securities analyzed that Q2 operating profit will reach 202.8 billion won, a 1680% increase year-over-year. An operating profit exceeding 200 billion won in Q2 is an exceptional achievement that has occurred only once in the last 15 years [4]. This is due to the new product effect in the optical solutions sector, as well as improving profitability as the AI semiconductor substrate plant's utilization rate approaches full capacity [6].
In terms of supply and demand, the positive approach of foreign investors is considered valid. Although the stock price showed short-term volatility, dropping from 1,283,000 won on the 18th to 933,000 won on the 26th, foreign investors recorded net buying for four consecutive days from the 22nd to the 25th, expanding their holdings by about 180 billion won [4]. This can be interpreted as a mid-to-long-term buying trend focused on the high growth of the highly profitable semiconductor substrate sector, breaking away from the traditional perception of it being just an Apple-related parts stock.
🏭 Value Chain Analysis: Differential Beneficiary Rankings
Looking at the big picture of the industry, the differential benefits across the value chain due to the spread of physical AI and AI semiconductors can be summarized as follows:
1st Priority: AI Semiconductor Substrate (FC-BGA) Sector. It is expected to be the most direct and structural beneficiary due to the expansion of AI server demand, and it is seen as the core driver leading maximum performance from this year to next year. In particular, related sales are projected to reach 1.2 trillion won in 2028, becoming a powerful growth engine [4].
2nd Priority: Vision Sensing Modules for Robots and Autonomous Driving. Through cooperation with Nvidia and entry into the supply chains of global robotics companies, it acts as the 'eyes' of autonomous vehicles and humanoids, ensuring valid mid-to-long-term growth. The strategy of providing preemptive solutions by combining camera module technology with LiDAR and radar stands out [3].
3rd Priority: Existing Mobile Optical Solutions. It is expected to continue its role as a stable cash cow following the release of new smartphones by major North American clients like Apple. It is a structure where new businesses are added on top of the solid foundation of the main business.
As a result, LG Innotek is evolving beyond a simple mobile parts company into a core enterprise in the AI and robotics value chain. Dotori believes that as LG Innotek's substrate business and physical AI sensing technologies combine, its re-evaluation as a growth stock synchronized with the semiconductor cycle will continue. Therefore, an approach focusing on structural fundamental improvements rather than current short-term stock price volatility will be valid.
I'll be back next time with another calm and objective industry analysis.
