**Maintain existing holdings. Hold off on adding for now.**Real demand supports the rebound. However, the extent of the market recovery and confirmation of company-specific earnings and valuations are still outstanding. If the business thesis or your risk limits are breached, reduce existing holdings as well.

1. There is still more reason to hold than to sell the rebound

**Maintain existing holdings in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. However, hold off on chasing today’s rally with additional purchases.**The rebound after the sharp drop the previous day was not an inexplicable bounce. An AI server company raised its preliminary revenue outlook, and South Korean exports were also strong. These two factors argue against the claim that memory demand is about to collapse. On the other hand, a one-day rebound does not confirm either the sustainability of elevated earnings or the fairness of share prices.

This morning’s report said to maintain existing holdings while assessing the strength of the rebound against predetermined price levels. The closing prices let us evaluate that commitment. The verdict for both stocks is ‘rebound holds, recovery incomplete.’ We did not see a strong close, but neither did the post-open rebound fail by the end of the session.

This conclusion applies to holdings that can be maintained without jeopardizing living expenses, collateral, or acceptable loss limits. If your account has already exceeded its risk limits, you should reduce existing positions as well. A positive industry outlook must not become advice to tolerate losses you cannot afford. Public reports do not tell readers to ‘hold everything’ or prescribe a fixed selling percentage without reviewing their actual accounts.

2. Assess the close without changing the morning’s benchmarks

At 15:30 on October 21, the KRX closing prices were Samsung Electronics 223,500 won (+5.67%), and SK hynix 1,294,000 won (+5.81%). The previous day’s KRX closes were 211,500 won and 1,223,000 won, respectively. The reinforcement and failure levels below are unchanged from those published this morning. We did not raise the benchmarks just because higher prices were reached intraday.

Parenthetical figures show the distance from the October 21 KRX close to the corresponding price. The calculation is reference price÷close−1; this is not a target return. A close at or above the reinforcement level strengthens the price-related case for holding, while a close below the failure threshold is assessed as a failed post-open rebound. Trading volume is the sum of one-minute bars from 09:00 to 15:30 and excludes after-hours trading. Since it has not been compared with the same time range historically, we do not conclude that there was a ‘volume explosion’ or that ‘forced selling has ended.’ Source: Samsung Electronics intraday chart, SK hynix intraday chart.

SK hynix’s advance in particular was far from smooth. After rising to 1,329,000 won at 11:05, it fell to 1,254,000 won at 13:17. From the high, it was −5.64%. From that low to the close, it then recovered +3.19%. Intraday, it fell below the morning failure line, but recovered by the close. This path shows why intraday price signals should be distinguished from the final verdict for the day. However, one day is not enough to conclude that “selling and buying back is always disadvantageous.”

NXT should be considered separately. 17:40:54 intraday Samsung Electronics was at 223,500 won (+5.67%), and Hynix at 1,289,000 won (+5.40%). The percentage changes are based on the previous day's KRX close, not the final NXT close. Prices after that point are not reflected in this report. Prices by exchange

3. The rebound has real-world support, but we should not skip the links in the chain

The first piece of evidence is Supermicro. In an announcement issued in the U.S. on October 20, the company gave a preliminary revenue estimate for the July–September quarter of $18.5–19.5 billion, with a midpoint 26.7% higher than its previous forecast of $14.5–15.5 billion. Its gross margin forecast also rose from 10.4–10.8% to 12.0–12.5%. The company attributed this to demand for AI platforms and its customer and product mix. These are still unaudited preliminary figures and should be confirmed at the earnings release on November 3 U.S. time. Supermicro official announcement

The second is customs export data. Exports from October 1–20 totaled $61.612 billion, up +105.4% year over year. However, the number of working days increased from 10.5 to 13. After adjusting for this, the average daily export growth rate was +65.9%, while semiconductor exports totaled approximately $27.5 billion based on the official report. Looking only at the overall growth rate could lead to mistaking a calendar effect for actual demand. Still, exports remained strong after adjusting for working days. Customs Service preliminary export and import announcement

These figures weaken the case for a collapse in demand, but they do not immediately raise the fair value of the two memory makers. Server revenue and Korean semiconductor exports reflect not only volume but also prices and product mix. The next link in the chain is what products Samsung Electronics and Hynix each sold, in what quantities, and how much they retained after costs and investment. Whether AI customers are recouping their investments—and can use those returns to keep investing—is also still an open question.

Reports also cited falling oil prices, hopes for U.S.–Iran talks, and stability in U.S. long-term interest rates as factors behind the day's rebound. The won–dollar exchange rate's daytime-session close at 15:30 was 1,325.2 won, down 2.9 won from the previous day. This eased pressure on discount rates and costs, but does not mean a deal has been reached. Nor was there enough evidence to attribute the pullback from the intraday high to any one specific new negative catalyst. Newsis closing report

4. The indices were strong, but the market as a whole did not recover in unison

The KOSPI closed at 5,735.66(+3.29%), and the KOSDAQ at 792.76(+1.38%). The KOSPI fell about 1.39% from its intraday high of 5,816.43 to the close, and the KOSDAQ closed below its opening level of 793.40. Gains were large, but the buying strength seen at the outset did not last throughout the session. KOSPI Index, KOSDAQ Index

Foreign net buying on the KOSPI was higher than in the morning, but institutions shifted from net buying to net selling between the two lookup times. Foreign net selling on the KOSDAQ also increased. KOSPI advancing and declining stocks shifted from 426 and 422 in the morning to 372 and 490, while on the KOSDAQ they shifted from 1,026 and 608 to 832 and 802. Stocks at the daily price limit are counted separately. There is a gap between the index’s recovery and a broad-based recovery across stocks.

The Korean labels 원 and 억원 mean won and one hundred million won, respectively. KOSPI non-arbitrage program net buying totaled +8,636억원. However, this cannot all be attributed to foreign investors or passive buying. Nor should it be combined with foreign net buying and counted as total new buying. Individual investors’ net selling alone does not reveal the proportions attributable to stop-losses, profit-taking, or forced liquidations, and it does not mean that all of today’s downward pressure has been resolved.

5. Tomorrow, distinguish between ‘waiting for a higher price’ and ‘waiting for evidence’

Tomorrow’s starting point is today’s close. Samsung Electronics 223,500원, and SK hynix 1,294,000원. If trading holds above those levels and the breadth of rising stocks also expands, that would strengthen the case that today’s recovery is continuing. A recovery of the intraday highs—Samsung at 228,000원 (+2.01%), and SK hynix at 1,329,000원 (+2.70%)—would make the price action more positive. The figures in parentheses indicate the distance from today’s KRX closing prices.

Still, these prices should not be turned into mandatory buy levels for tomorrow. We will not keep raising the bar whenever a higher high is reached, nor adopt a strategy of waiting for a breakout and continually putting off buying opportunities. This morning’s 224,750원·1,316,000원 levels were benchmarks for assessing today, not rules for placing automatic orders tomorrow.

Conversely, a retest of today’s lows—Samsung at 217,000원 (−2.91%), and SK hynix at 1,254,000원 (−3.09%)—would warn that the price recovery is weak. Here, SK hynix’s 1,254,000원 is simply an observed figure describing today’s actual low, not a new stop-loss level created by lowering the morning’s 1,258,000원 failure threshold. Weak prices warrant reassessing the outlook, but do not in themselves justify selling.

What to watch tomorrowAction on existing holdingsAdding to positions
Prices hold above today’s close, and market breadth improvesMaintain holdings. Do not automatically take profits just because of the reboundAssess value and risk capacity, not the rise itself
Prices weaken again, but the business, shareholder value, and risk limits remain intactMaintain holdings. Immediately reassess your actual ability to bear lossesDo not add solely because prices are lower
Credible order, pricing, delivery, or collection information substantially lowers the outlook for sustainable earningsRecommend reducing existing holdings. Do not wait for an actual earnings deterioration announcementDo not increase exposure until the cause of the impairment and the valuation have changed
Collateral, funding needs, or allowable loss limits are exceededReduce the necessary amount now. Do not wait to break even, for a rebound, or for the closeRestoring risk capacity comes first
The business evidence improves, the current price is sufficiently attractive, and risk limits will still be respected after addingMaintain existing holdingsConsider adding in stages at that point. Do not make a new all-time high or waiting several days a prerequisite

Putting additional purchases on hold does not mean doing nothing indefinitely. We will change our view if new evidence supports sustainable earnings and value accruing to shareholders for each company, the share price at that time is sufficiently attractive relative to that value, and any losses after adding remain manageable. If these conditions are met, there is no rule requiring us to wait until the close on the day after an announcement or for further gains. Conversely, even if earnings are strong, we may still refrain from buying more if the share price has already run too far ahead.

Today’s information alone was not enough to establish a new valuation. Therefore, we are not issuing a new, higher price target, and this should not be read as reaffirming a past target today. Holding and adding to a position do not require the same degree of conviction. We distinguish between deciding that existing exposure can be maintained and deciding that the price is low enough to justify taking on additional risk.

6. There is still insufficient evidence to start a new frequent-trading strategy

SK hynix fell sharply intraday today before recovering. Looking back, selling near the high and buying back near the low may seem easy. In reality, those turning points cannot be known in advance, and if the price reverses after you sell, you may have to buy back at a higher price or miss the recovery. Conversely, selling is advantageous if the decline continues. The day’s price movement alone cannot tell us which choice has the higher probability of generating a profit.

This report is not the result of a new backtest. Accordingly, it does not claim that holding is statistically superior to trading in and out. Our current recommendation, based on the company-specific evidence and risk conditions confirmed to date, is to maintain existing holdings rather than adopt active trading as a new default strategy when no separate advantage has been established for either the sell or buyback timing. This is not the same as holding at all costs. If the reduction criteria in the table above are met, we would also reduce existing holdings.

7. What to look for in the next earnings reports: company-specific answers, not just good headlines

SK hynix’s next official briefing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 09:00 KST, and Samsung Electronics’ for Thursday, October 29, 10:00 KST. However, we will not freeze all judgment until those dates. If material orders, transaction terms, or funding risks are confirmed earlier, we will respond sooner. SK hynix SEC filing, Samsung Electronics Official IR

For Samsung Electronics, we need to see how much improved realized memory prices and product mix translate into actual earnings. Progress with HBM customers and products is an important question, but profitability should not be assumed based on a single related statement. We should assess the breadth of earnings, including commodity DRAM and NAND, alongside the investment required and cash flow. Strong industry exports do not necessarily mean Samsung Electronics is capturing that demand profitably.

For SK hynix, we need to confirm whether strong HBM and DRAM demand carries through to volumes, realized prices, and margins in the next period. Even if customer inventory or delivery schedules change, we should assess the impact on total earnings rather than judging any one item in isolation. If there is a transaction related to Solidigm, we must also assess the value that ultimately accrues to shareholders of the parent company by examining the cash raised, investment impact, debt, and transaction terms. This review has not secured any newly confirmed transaction terms, so we do not assume a specific dilution rate or special dividend.

For both companies, the key question is not only whether revenue is growing, but whether those earnings can be repeated and returned to shareholders. Even with strong demand, future earnings could fall if capacity expands and prices normalize more quickly. Conversely, if product mix and supply constraints support earnings, the case for holding may remain intact even as share prices fluctuate. That is why we do not translate AI industry growth rates directly into expected stock returns.

The remaining difference in the team discussion was when to consider adding to positions after the earnings announcements. The earnings-and-events view called for making a decision within 2~3 trading days after the announcements, but did not provide statistical evidence for the advantage of that timing. The industry-and-quantitative view argued that the link between earnings and prices should be confirmed first. The final decision is to reassess as soon as the company-specific case, valuation, and risk capacity after increasing the position are all satisfactory, rather than follow a blanket rule to wait a set number of days after the announcements. We did not manufacture a buy date or price target by majority vote.

Conclusion. The case for holding strengthened today, but that is not a reason to hold at all costs

Our current recommendation is to maintain existing holdings in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix and hold off on adding to them. Today, positive evidence of real-world demand was added, and both stocks closed above their morning breakdown levels. So we will not sell on the assumption that this was merely a dead-cat bounce. However, the narrow breadth of the market’s advance and intraday volatility make it too early to conclude that the recovery is complete.

If prices are strong tomorrow, that would reinforce the case for holding, but it does not obligate us to chase them. If prices weaken, we will reassess the business and risk limits, but we will not sell mechanically just because the share price has fallen. **Trim when recurring earnings or shareholder value is impaired, or losses exceed what you can bear; when value and risk capacity provide sufficient support, do not wait indefinitely for a higher confirmation price.**The principle to uphold in this rebound is that symmetry.

Basis: KRX regular-session close at 15:30 on October 21, 2026; NXT intraday data at 17:40:54. Supply-and-demand figures are provisional readings taken at 09:50 and 17:40. Official export and company announcements, along with raw market data, were checked, followed by cross-discussion based on independent analysis by four roles and sharing of all remarks. Net purchases by investor type for each stock, the scale of forced liquidations and short covering, and the risk capacity of individual accounts remain unverified. No new price targets, probability of trading success, or backtest results are presented. Market conditions may change, and losses may occur.
